A man who admitted stealing a variety of items from an unoccupied house and garage in Royalton was placed into a court-supervised drug treatment program after pleading guilty Wednesday in Niagara County Court.
Donald J. Frey, 37, of Lincoln Avenue Extension, Lockport, was admitted to the judicial diversion program after admitting to third-degree burglary. He will also have to pay restitution of up to $6,000, said Assistant District Attorney Joseph A. Scalzo, who added that the thefts occurred on Hollenbeck Road.
Scalzo said tools, a chain saw, shotguns and scrap metal were stolen between Dec. 27 and 31. Frey's charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor if he succeeds in drug treatment; otherwise, he faces as long as seven years in prison, Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas said.
